Ireland wing Andrew Trimble crossed twice as Ulster secured an emphatic 30-0 bonus-point victory over Edinburgh in the Guinness PRO12 at the Kingspan Stadium.

Paddy Jackson, who is likely to deputise for Jonny Sexton for Ireland in the upcoming autumn internationals should the Racing Metro fly-half fail to recover from a broken jaw in time, opened the scoring with a 13th-minute penalty.

The young stand-off had already missed with another attempt at goal by the time Trimble notched the game's opening try - capitalising on good work from Stuart McCloskey by shrugging off Tim Visser's attempted tackle to touch down for a try Jackson made no mistake in converting.

The boot of Jackson stretched the lead to 13-0 at half-time and Edinburgh's defending became increasingly desperate in the second period with captain Mike Coman yellow carded on the hour-mark.

Nick Williams had already seen one effort chalked off by the TMO before he barrelled his way over from close-range in the 62nd minute, and veteran hooker Rory Best got in on the act to round off an impressive forwards' effort soon after with a third try.

The bonus point was sealed in the penultimate minute of the game - Williams providing the momentum and Paul Marshall's precision pass allowing Trimble to trot over for his second and Ulster's fourth with the visiting defence all at sea.
