Edinburgh have revealed that Gregor Hunter could be ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury.
The young stand-off was injured while playing for Hawick in their RBS Premiership defeat to the Glasgow Hawks at the end of August.
Subsequent scans revealed the 21-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, and he has now undergone surgery.
Hunter is expected to be sidelined for around nine months, and he is unlikely to feature for the RaboDirect Pro12 club this season.
Hunter, who signed a two-year deal with the club in 2012, has scored 43 points in his 16 senior appearances for Edinburgh.
He has represented Scotland at U17, U18 and U19 levels before injury prevented him from playing for the U20 side.
