LV= Cup: Exeter to begin defence against Newport Gwent Dragons

Exeter Chiefs will begin their defence of the LV= Cup with a trip to Wales to face Newport Gwent Dragons.

The Sandy Park club, who lifted the trophy by beating Northampton four months ago, follow their trip to Rodney Parade by clashing with Bath, Gloucester and Saracens.

The competition format sees teams from Pool One face teams from Pool Four, and Pool Two teams taking on those from Pool Three.

Premiership champions Northampton kick off their campaign by hosting Newcastle on the weekend of October 31-November 2, while top flight new boys London Welsh will travel to face domestic rivals Bath.

The LV= Cup draw:

Pool One - Saracens, Bath, Gloucester, Newport Gwent Dragons.

Pool Two - Northampton, Sale Sharks, London Irish, Cardiff Blues.

Pool Three - Leicester, Wasps, Newcastle, Scarlets.

Pool Four - Harlequins, Exeter, London Welsh, Ospreys.
