The Ospreys have confirmed Hanno Dirksen is to undergo surgery at the weekend that will rule him out of action for up to six months.

The South Africa-born USA wing has been struggling with a knee problem and the club want to rectify the issue sooner rather than later.

Dirksen is highly-rated by the Ospreys and head physio Chris Towers believes a long-term approach to his health and fitness is prudent.

"We've spoken to several specialists and the view is that it is in Hanno's best interests to have the surgery now," Towers told the club's official website.

"We've taken a long term view on what is best for Hanno's career moving forward.

"At this stage we are probably looking at a post-op rehab process of around five to six months, it's not something we can rush."
