Jaque Fourie has reversed his decision to retire and will be available for South Africa at the World Cup.
Allister Coetzee confirmed Fourie's U-turn as he left as coach of South Africa's Stormers to take up a job with Japan's Kobelco Steelers.
Fourie suffered with injuries in 2014 and announced his retirement because he doubted his ability to compete with the very best.
He returned to the Test arena on the Boks' end-of-year tour in 2013 but has not considered playing at international level again until now.
Coetzee departed after six years in charge of the Cape Town-based team, during which he guided it to a Super Rugby final and two semi-finals, but failed to claim a first title.
He said that another Stormers and Springboks star Andries Bekker is unavailable for the World Cup, as Fourie returns to Test rugby.
“We have decided as a club that Andries Bekker will not be available for the World Cup, but when it comes to Jaque, we have granted him permission," Coetzee told Supersport.
