Pierre Spies: Bulls captain out for season with torn biceps
South Africa back-row forward Pierre Spies is out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn biceps in the win over Samoa.
Spies, who captains the Bulls in Super Rugby, saw two specialists after hurting his arm in the Pretoria match but they advised surgery which he will undergo later on Tuesday.
Bulls team doctor Org Strauss said the severity of the injury means Spies would have no chance of playing again this season, ruling him out of the conclusion of the Super Rugby campaign, the Rugby Championship and South Africa's end-of-year tour.
The franchise has not named a new captain, although the main candidates would appear to be hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle and loose forward Dewald Potgieter.
