Wallabies fly-half Quade Cooper has signed a contract extension with the Australian Rugby Union until the end of 2015.

The 26-year-old Queensland Reds back lost Australia's starting No 10 position to Bernard Foley after being sidelined with a shoulder injury but he played an impact role off the bench during the recent tour of Europe.

The new deal means Cooper is available for next year’s World Cup and he is keen to add to his 53 caps for Australia.

"I love being at the (Queensland) Reds and playing rugby for Australia, and am looking forward to the opportunities next year," he said.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said: "I've really enjoyed coaching Quade on the Spring Tour. He brings a lot to the team on and off the field.

"He's clearly a quality player and has proven himself at a state and national level for many seasons."

Cheika also revealed that Cooper’s fellow back Kurtley Beale is close to signing a new contract.

"It's on the way, we're very close to getting that deal done now," said Cheika.
