Williams: Waves farewell
After an emotional final appearance Shane Williams will fly home following what he called "a fantastic tour" of South Africa.
"It has been a fantastic tour; I've made some great friends and been to some great places."
Shane Williams Quotes of the week
Williams pulled out all the stops to inflict a 28-9 victory over Test series winners South Africa in what is possibly his final appearance for the British and Irish Lions.
Despite the disappointment of the first two Tests, the Lions produced a performance to remember over the Springboks, something that will stick in Williams' mind for a long time.
"It has been a fantastic tour; I've made some great friends and been to some great places," he said.
"It's very difficult to win any games in South Africa, let alone Test matches, but the performance and the effort was there."
The Lions hopes where smashed in Pretoria last weekend where they lost the second Test which smashed any hopes of a series win.
"I thought we had deserved to win the second Test, but there are narrow margins between winning and losing, and these are the toughest games you are ever going to play in," added Williams.
There are many critics of the Lions tour, with a lot of questions being raised as to whether rugby's greatest institution has a future, but Phil Vickery has stepped forward to rubbish any critics of the Lions tour.
"People can question me until the cows come home about Lions tours, and I will tell them straight, the Lions tours should carry on," said Vickery
And according to Vickery there is no greater feat than the ecstatic feeling he gets when he pulls on the Lions shirt.
"I've been fortunate to achieve some fantastic things in my career, but nothing beats wearing the Lions jersey," he added.
