Sale's Danny Cipriani has been released from hospital after being hit by a double-decker bus on a night out in Leeds.

The 25-year-old was treated for concussion at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he was kept overnight to undergo X-rays.

Cipriani tweeted: "Out of hospital now. Thank you for all the well wishes, means a lot. My ribs are a bit sore. Feel like I've been hit by a bus..."

A spokesman for FirstLeeds, the company who operate the bus service in the city, said: "At 8.40pm last night (Wednesday 24 April) a First number 6 double deck bus was travelling in Woodhouse Lane in Headingley (near Leeds University). A pedestrian suddenly ran into the road and collided with a First bus travelling at a safe speed.

"An ambulance was called and the man was taken to hospital. No passengers were harmed in the incident and the driver was shaken but didn't suffer any apparent physical injuries. The vehicle has suffered some damage to its front windscreen.

"The police have investigated this incident and have reported that First and its driver are not at fault.

"We understand the pedestrian is an England rugby international and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Sale have one more game remaining in the Aviva Premiership season, which is against Cipriani's former team London Wasps on Saturday, May 4.
