Andy Powell typified Sale's fighting spirit
Sale Sharks rugby director Steve Diamond was proud of his side's spirit but admitted they were beaten by the better team as they lost the LV= Cup final to Harlequins.
Diamond's men were overpowered by the reigning Aviva Premiership champions, losing 32-14 at Sixways.
Tom Williams, Tom Guest, Tom Casson and Luke Wallace all touched down for Quins with fly-half Ben Botica kicking 12 points while Sale's solitary try came via centre Johnny Leota with Danny Cipriani kicking three penalties.
Diamond admitted the Sharks have "bigger fish to fry" as they continue their battle against relegation from the Premiership in coming weeks, but was disappointed at failing to land the club's first silverware for seven years.
He said: "We showed great spirit throughout but our skill set and application let us down at times on one-on-one tackles and then there is a mix-up in midfield just after half-time which really nailed us.
"But the spirit was good and we came across a side which are on the up. I've no complaints.
"We have got bigger fish to fry over the next weeks but we came here to give it our best shot and we are pleased with the effort. Just the skill set let us down."
