Saracens have announced that they have signed 27-year-old South African-born hooker Brett Sharman on a deal which runs until the end of the season.

Sharman has previously played for Northampton Saints and Bath, and Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall is delighted with his new acquisition.

"Brett has plenty of Premiership experience and we believe he will fit in to our environment extremely well,” said McCall.

Sharman began his career with Blue Bulls in South Africa and helped them win the Vodacom Cup in 2008 but joined Northampton in 2009 and is a British citizen.

He suffered a serious knee injury in January 2012, which required substantial surgery and disrupted his career.
