Saracens have signed Romanian international Catalin Fercu from Timisoara Saracens.

The 28-year-old, who will joined the Aviva Premiership club at the end of the month, is the first player to gain a contract through the Saracens Global Network which sees Saracens support eight partner clubs through coaching assistance, kit provision and community programmes.

Saracens rugby director, Mark McCall said, “Catalin made a strong impression when he played for us against Gloucester in May and we are delighted he has now agreed to move to north London.

"He is strong, tenacious and skilful, and is equally capable on the wing and at full-back."

Fercu has represented the Oaks (Romania’s national team) 72 times scoring 28 tries. He has also recently finished third with Timisoara Saracens in the Super Liga CEC Bank after winning twice winning the league in 2012 and 2013.

The Romanian International said: “I have an enormous desire to play in my new team, but I am aware I have to work twice as hard to reach their level.

“It is a new stage in my career as a sportsman and I wish to live many beautiful moments as I did with Timisoara Saracens.”
