Mike Ford believes Bath have given themselves a great chance of qualifying for next season's Heineken Cup after their dramatic win over Leicester.

Captain Francois Louw scored a 73rd-minute try to snatch a 27-26 victory for Bath at the Recreation Ground.

The bonus-point win keeps Bath in the mix for Heineken Cup qualification, although it's likely they will still need to win at Saracens on the final day of the regular season.

Ford said: "It's pretty pleasing how well we played. What we've done is give ourselves a chance (of qualifying for the Heineken Cup).

"We're going to have two weeks' preparation to play Saracens. It's in our hands - we've got something to play for."

Bath trailed 20-19 at half-time, with Simon Taylor, Semesa Rokoduguni and Horacio Agulla all scoring tries, before Louw grabbed the decisive score late on.

"We're just pleased that, against the top try-scoring side in the Premiership, we kept a tight rein on them," said defence coach Ford.

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill was philosophical about the surprise defeat.

Good game

"It was a good game for the neutral - four tries to two," he said. "They deserved their win but we were a bit inaccurate at times.

"You can't let Bath run at you because at some point you'll break and we did and they scored. We have only ourselves to blame.

"We had a try disallowed which was probably fair. It is what it is, so there's no point whingeing about that.

"We were a bit sloppy today which was frustrating but Bath were good for their win."

Cockerill is now giving his players a full week off.

"We need to beat (London) Irish to make sure of a home semi, so we've got two weeks to prepare for that," he said.

"We've got to make sure we come back with a much more intense performance."
