Ian Humphreys admits he is overjoyed to be representing Leicester so soon in his blossoming career, and he promises to bring an attacking intent to the Tigers' game.

Humphreys is preparing for a first start at Welford Road on Saturday, after making his debut against the Dragons last week.

And the Irish fly half, who has plenty of sevens experience, admits that his first thought is always to attack.

"I love going out there and trying things," said Humphreys on the club website.

"Obviously I'm going to have to temper my natural instinct, and play a bit tighter initially, but hopefully the match against Worcester will open up a bit at the end, like it did on Monday night, and we can have a bit of fun."

Coach Pat Howard's decision to throw Humphreys into the cauldron of Rodney Parade indicates the faith he has in his young talent, and Humphreys is keen for more.

"It gave me a taste of first-team action and I want more.

"The result was disappointing, but I got there, certainly a lot earlier than I thought, and I'm dying to play more!

"I went up to the Leeds match the week before and even though I wasn't involved, just being around the boys and sampling the atmosphere was brilliant. To be honest that's the reason why I moved here."

And descriptions of the Irishman as a student of the game are literally spot on the mark, as the Leicester stand off starts University life at Loughborough

"Unfortunately I missed freshers week, I had classes on Monday and I was at uni all day on Thursday, on our day off.

"I knew it would be tough, but I've said it before, if my rugby takes off it could affect my studies, but to be honest that wouldn't be the end of the world for more than one reason!"
