Scarlets have boosted their front-row options for next season with the signing of tighthead prop Will Taylor.

Swansea-born Taylor, 24, will return to Wales after spending three seasons in the Aviva Premiership with Wasps.

Taylor, who has made 39 appearances for Wasps since joining them from Ospreys in 2012, will strengthen the Scarlets’ squad with Samson Lee sidelined due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac told his club’s official website: "Will is an exciting prospect and has experience playing in the Aviva Premiership with Wasps.

“With Samson Lee and Rhodri Jones committing their futures to Scarlets and Wales signing National Dual Contracts we're looking forward to seeing the continued development of our front row."

Delighted

Taylor, who has played for Wales at U18 and U20 level, added: "I'm delighted to be returning to Wales with the Scarlets. Playing at Wasps for the past three years has given me an invaluable insight into the demands of top-flight professional rugby.

“I hope this insight and the experience I have gained will benefit me and the Scarlets during next season and beyond. I have a strong ambition to represent my country at senior level but my short term goal is to establish myself in the Scarlets squad and help make us as competitive as possible in all competitions."

Taylor’s spell with Wasps was hindered by two serious bicep injuries that put him out of action for almost a year.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said: "Will suffered two bad injuries and has worked extremely hard to get back playing. He's at the stage of his career now where he needs regular first-team rugby.

“Hopefully when he returns home and joins Scarlets he will get an opportunity to build some game-time and I can only see him going from strength to strength.”
