O'Connor not to be rushed back

Wasps flanker Johnny O'Connor has been ruled out for the rest of this season.

Wasps flanker Johnny O'Connor has been ruled out for the rest of this season after suffering spinal concussion in the Powergen Cup final against Llanelli.

The Ireland back-row forward collided with Scarlets' Alix Popham in the 26-10 victory at Twickenham two weeks ago and he will now return to training for pre-season.

O'Connor's recovery has been going well but he still has swelling and disruption of the neural system in his upper back so he will also miss Ireland's tour to New Zealand and Australia in June.

There was some better news for Wasps with back-row forward James Haskell signing a new two-year deal.

Haskell, an Academy product, helped England Under-21s to the Grand Slam after missing the first half of the season with a wrist injury.

He said: "This is a make-or-break time in my career. I just turned 21 at the start of this month and now I have a fantastic opportunity to do everything I can to establish myself as a regular."
