London Irish have announced the signing of flanker Joe Trayfoot from Aviva Premiership rivals Harlequins.

Trayfoot, 23, was capped by England at U16 and U18 levels, joining Quins' academy system in 2008.

In 2013 he was nominated for the LV= Cup Breakthrough Player of the Year.

He has made almost 50 appearances for Quins.

Trayfoot told the London Irish website: “I am really looking to joining London Irish. I had a good conversation with the rugby committee and it is clearly a very ambitious set up heading in a really promising direction. The facilities are world class and I cannot wait to get started.”

Irish operations director Bob Casey said: "Joe is one of the brightest young English talents.

"He is a top-quality player with a great work-rate who we feel can add real strength to our back-row.

"He is an ambitious young player who wants to be part of our future."

Trayfoot becomes Irish's fourth new signing for next season, following Ben Franks, Sean Maitland and Brendan McKibbin.
