London Irish hooker David Paice has been banned for three weeks after he was sent off in their European Rugby Challenge Cup clash with Grenoble.

Paice was dismissed by referee Dudley Phillips in the 57th minute when he was alleged to have struck opposing full-back Julien Caminati with his head, in contravention of Law 10.4(a).

He attended an independent disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, and pleaded not guilty, but the red card decision was upheld by judicial officer Jean-Noel Couraud.

Couraud found that Paice had committed an act of foul play but concluded the offence was at the lower end of the scale, where suspensions start at four weeks.

Paice's good conduct at the hearing was taken into account, taking one week off the ban.

He will be free to return on February 9 but does have the right to appeal the decision.
