Wasps director of rugby Dai Young hailed winger Christian Wade after his side edged past Gloucester 32-30.

The win was the London club's first on the road since February, with Wade notching a brace of Premiership tries at Kingsholm.

Speaking about Wade, Young said: "You have to say that the first try was a good finish but the second one was something really special.

"Nobody else could have scored that try so we probably owe him a victory there.

"He is disappointed not to be with England but he is a very respectful kid as well.

"He knows there are quality wingers in the England set-up and they have done really well all season.

"Stuart (Lancaster) and the coaching staff (at England) have given him things to work on and sent him back to us to play - and thank God they have because he really was the difference between us winning and losing.

"But we all know he is an international player and he is going to play lots of times for England.

"He copes with the disappointment well, he wants to be in there, he knows he has things to work on and he takes on board the things the coaches say to him."

As for match, he added: "We were awful, to be quite honest. For 35 minutes, we did as much as we could to lose that game.

"We talked about being accurate for the first 20 minutes and we lost line-out which is uncharacteristic this season.

"I am just pleased to come away with that win because, with 10 minutes to go, it looked unlikely."

Gloucester head coach Nigel Davies added: "We didn't put an 80-minute performance in which is what I am most disappointed about.

"We turned it around in the second half and were dominant but you can't afford to give away the soft tries that we did.

"They also had a match-winner in Wade who you can't afford to give space to."
