Stephen Jones: Wanted by Gloucesrter to mentor Freddie Burns

Sky Bet

Gloucester have joined the race to sign British and Irish Lions international Stephen Jones from the Scarlets.

Jones has scored 917 points in a record 104 appearances for Wales, while he has turned out 305 times for the Scarlets during two spells at the club.

However with his contract at the Parc y Scarlets set to expire in the summer and his international career appearing to be over, Jones is now weighing up his options.

The 34-year-old was omitted from the Wales squad for the RBS Six Nations - with his Scarlets team-mate Rhys Priestland and James Hook ahead of him in the pecking order.

A number of Europe's top teams have been monitoring the situation - with a return to France, where Jones spent two years with Clermont between 2004-06, among the options open to him.

Gloucester, though, have earmarked the veteran No.10 as the ideal man to mentor rising star Freddie Burns, who has signed a new deal at Kingsholm, and academy product Ryan Mills.
