Fearn and Atkinson opt to join the Blues

Bedford Blues have completed the signings of Newcastle prop Darren Fearn and Esher fly-half Mark Atkinson. Fearn played for Scarborough and Blaydon before being picked up by the Flacons in 2009. However the 23-year-old announced he would be moving on at the end of the season, with the former England Students international agreeing terms with Bedford. Fearn will be joined at Goldington Road by Atkinson, who has previously had spells at Sale, Sedgley Park, Rosslyn Park and Wasps. The 22-year-old, who has been capped by England at Under-18s and Under-20s levels, can also cover at centre but he will be adding serious competition to the No.10 jersey. Blues director of rugby Mike Rayer told the club's official site: "It has been a busy couple of weeks for us at Goldington Road but we are delighted to be able to welcome Darren and Mark to the club. "Darren is a good, young prop who has Premiership and European experience and will add plenty of momentum to the Blues scrum. "Anyone who was at Moseley Road last season will know what Mark can do given the tiniest amount of space and I look forward to seeing him in action in a Blues shirt soon."
