Northampton Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder has continued to strengthen his squad for next season, announcing the signing of Rotherham Titans prop Gareth Denman.

The 22-year-old joins England front-row forward Alex Corbisiero at Franklin's Gardens, as the Aviva Premiership finalists look to replace out-going forwards Brian Mujati and Soane Tonga'uiha, who both move to French Top 14 side Racing Metro this summer.

Mallinder said, "The Championship is one of the toughest leagues to play in if you're a front-row forward, and Gareth will have learned a lot very quickly over the past couple of years."

Tough

"We believe that Gareth will make the step up to Aviva Premiership level, and that he has the ability to be successful at Franklin's Gardens over the next few years."

Denman, who signed for the Titans a year ago after coming through the Leeds Carnegie academy, is excited at the prospect of his move to the East Midlands.

"It's a great opportunity, I'm going to get my head down and work hard," he said, "You look at how the likes of Mujati and [Northampton and England Saxons prop] Tom Mercey have developed over the past few years, and I hope to follow in their footsteps."
