France have lost fly-half Francois Trinh-Duc and scrum-half Morgan Parra to injury ahead of the November internationals.
Montpellier star Trinh-Duc will be out for three months after breaking his leg in the 25-9 victory over Oyonnax in the Top 14 at the weekend.
And Parra has been ruled out for six weeks after the Clermont star suffered a fractured bone in his shoulder against La Rochelle
Parra will miss forthcoming European Rugby Champions Cup matches against Saracens and Sale, plus the international Tests against Fiji, Australia and Argentina in November.
Trinh-Duc’s injury could hardly have come at a worse time. He had been in outstanding form and was being tipped to start at No 10 in the November Tests.
France coach Phillipe Saint-Andre has Remi Tales and Camille Lopez next in line for the role.
Frederic Michalak is out of contention because of his own injury, meaning Jules Plisson may be called up in place of Trinh-Duc.
