And things got worse for England as they lost 14-7 to eventual champions France in the cup quarter-finals despite Les Bleus having two players yellow-carded.
England did respond with a 28-21 victory over Russia in the plate semi-final, only for Georgia to snatch the title with a 21-14 success.
Scotland failed to build on their win over England as they lost to Wales in the cup and then Georgia in the plate.
Wales ended up claiming third spot overall with a win over Spain after their semi-final loss to Portugal.
