Bradley Davies has been ruled out until late March but Wales forwards coach Robin McBryde is not worried ahead of Sunday's clash with Scotland.
Former captain and back row regular Ryan Jones is the anticipated replacement for Davies, with uncapped Scarlet Lou Reed also in the squad.
McBryde is positive ahead of the game in Cardiff and encouraged by the squad's versatility.
He said: "Ryan Jones has been on top of his game as a second row and back row for the Ospreys, and we are really happy with the way he is playing at the moment.
"We have that option, even if it would not give him as much freedom to run around the field carrying the ball as he did so well on Sunday.
"And we have Lou, an up-and-coming second row who was with us at our training camp in Poland and has plenty to offer. He does not look out of place and he is fitting in well, taking a lot on board.
"We are keeping a close eye on Alun-Wyn Jones, whose rehab at Ospreys is going very well. We are ready for whatever eventuality."
Meanwhile, captain Sam Warburton looks on course to be fit to lead his team in Cardiff.
McBryde added: "Sam needs a bit more time. The signs are looking good and the medical team are confident he will be able to take a full part in training on Friday."
