Ireland centre Gordon D'Arcy has been ruled out of the rest of the RBS 6 Nations Championship with a serious foot injury.
D'Arcy injured his right foot during the recent 12-6 home defeat to England and a scan has confirmed he suffered a stress fracture to his foot.
The injury will require D'Arcy to have his foot immobilised in a boot for at least four weeks and he is unlikely to return to action for six weeks.
The news is a massive blow for Ireland who had already lost Simon Zebo, Cian Healy, Jonathan Sexton and Mike McCarthy following the clash with England
Zebo also broke his foot during the game while Healy received a three-week ban for stamping on England prop Dan Cole. Fly-half Sexton damaged his hamstring and McCarthy suffered a knee ligament injury during the bruising encounter with England.
Star centre Brian O'Driscoll (ankle), Donnacha Ryan (back) and Mike McCarthy (knee) are also serious doubts for Ireland's clash with Scotland later this month.
The Ireland training squad for the Murrayfield game is set to be announced on Sunday evening following this weekend's games.
