Legendary Ireland centre Brian O'Driscoll has suggested this year's Six Nations may be his last.

The 34-year-old has lost the captaincy to Jamie Heaslip but is fit to face Wales in the tournament curtain-raiser on Saturday having overcome an ankle injury.

O'Driscoll said: "There's a strong possibility it could be my last Six Nations, but I haven't really allowed myself to start thinking about finishing.

"If you start thinking about it too early, you've one foot into retirement already. I'm contracted until the summer and I'll see how my body feels."

Ireland's all-time leading try-scorer is hoping a solid campaign will see him force his way onto the British & Irish Lions tour to Australia in the summer.

The Leinster star captained the Lions on the 2005 tour of New Zealand but was the target of Tana Umaga and Kevan Mealamu's infamous spear tackle in the opening ruck of the first Test.

He added: "It would be an honour that would be too big to pass up again. I got to do it once, albeit for only 25 seconds of a Test match, so it would be nice to get another opportunity.

"But first I've got to get into a position to get myself on the tour and deserve my spot."
