England and Scotland renew hostilities on Saturday when they clash at Twickenham for the Calcutta Cup.
It is the oldest rivalry in international rugby, with England winning 70 of the 130 encounters since 1871. Scotland have won 42 of the games, with 18 ending in draws.

1871 - First blood to Scotland
Having issued a challenge to England via a letter published in
The Scotsman and in
Bell's Life in London in December 1870, the first international took place in Edinburgh on March 27, 1971. Scotland won the fixture by a goal and a try to a try at Raeburn Place.
1879 - Calcutta Cup
The Calcutta Cup, made out of melted down silver rupees and donated by the Calcutta Rugby Club when it disbanded, was first officially played for in 1879 at Raeburn Place. However the honours were even between the two sides, with England winning the trophy for the first time the following year in Manchester.
1914 - Scotland 15 England 16
Cyrill 'Kid' Lowe created history as he became the first man to score a hat-trick of tries in a fixture between the auld enemies. The England winger's treble helped inspire a narrow victory at Murrayfield - with only John Carleton and Jamie Noon having emulated his feat.
1926 - England 9 Scotland 17
England suffered their first-ever defeat at Twickenham to a home nation when they slumped to a 17-9 defeat to the Scots. Both sides scored three tries apiece, however Herbert Waddell's two conversions and a drop-goal from James Dykes proved the difference.
1974 - Scotland 16 England 14
With scenes more akin to a club game, the Scottish touch judge couldn't contain his delight as Andy Irvine slotted over a match-winning penalty at Murrayfield. Irvine landed 12 points in the game, but it was his late 45-yard penalty that saw an indiscreet leap of joy by the man with the flag.
1980 - Scotland 18 England 30
A memorable moment for England as they secured their first Five Nations Championship title since 1963 with a thumping victory at Murrayfield. Carleton's hat-trick led the way, with skipper Bill Beaumont carried off the field as England celebrated.
1990 - Scotland 13 England 7
Scotland denied England another Grand Slam triumph at Murrayfield a decade on. Scotland won the mind games as they whipped the crowd into a frenzy, while Tony Stanger scored a memorable try to break English hearts.
1991 - Scotland 6 England 9
Murrayfield was silenced a year later as England hit back to win the World Cup semi-final. England had trailed 6-0 before two Jonathan Webb penalties and a Rob Andrew drop-goal sealed the win - although the game is probably best remembered for a shocking miss in front of the posts by Gavin Hastings.
2000 - Scotland 19 England 13
Scotland were the party-poopers once again in 2000 when they denied England the Grand Slam in the first year of the expanded Six Nations. As the rain lashed down at Murrayfield, Duncan Hodge, the current Scotland kicking coach, scored all his side's points to leave England ruing what could have been.
2001 - England 43 Scotland 3
Revenge was sweet for England 12 months on as they ran riot at Twickenham. Iain Balshaw and Lawrence Dallaglio crossed for two tries apiece, while Will Greenwood and Richard Hill also scored as England recorded their biggest-ever victory over Scotland.
