Northampton Saints' Sean Lamont has been named Scotland's player of the season.

The dynamic winger, who scored a try in their final RBS Six Nations match against France, has enjoyed a impressive year for Frank Hadden's side.

Using his pace and power to give direction to the Scotland attack, Lamont has received recognition ahead of the likes of Chris Paterson and Simon Taylor.

"It's a nice surprise and I feel honoured to be recognised in this way," he said.

Lamont has been an ever-present for his country during the past 12 months, and he is surely a certainty to start in the World Cup later this year.
