Scrum-half Chris Cusiter is out of Scotland's summer tour of South Africa.The Border Reivers number nine suffered a chest injury in last month's victory over Italy and scans have confirmed significant damage that will rule him out until August.
It's a bitter blow for the 23-year-old who was making his first Six Nations start of the season in Rome.
He said: "I am obviously disappointed to be out until August, because I'll miss Scotland's summer tour to South Africa and the end of a productive season with the Borders.
"I'm just looking forward to putting in a good pre-season and staying optimistic about the future."
Scotland face the Springboks in Durban on June 10 before heading to Port Elizabeth seven days later.
