Lawson faces up to 'dream'

Six months ago, the thought of lining up in opposition to the hugely experienced All Black hooker Anton Oliver would have been no more than a pipe dream for Scott Lawson.

However, that is the prospect that faces the Glasgow forward on Saturday, and he admits that the situation is still to sink in.

"The last time Scotland played New Zealand I was it in the clubhouse in Biggar watching it," recalled Lawson.

"I was about 19 or so at the time and in the first XV there. Playing against them one day wasn't on my mind then - it wasn't even in my mind six months ago!

"It might sink in about five minutes to two on Saturday when the Haka starts but I'm really looking forward to it and it's all about going out and performing, that's the main thing."

The mighty Kiwis arrive at Murrayfield in such good form that the tag 'invincible' is never far away when commentators attempt to describe Graham Henry's men.

Lawson is one of the 15 Scots expected to halt the All Black charge come Saturday, and he admits that the pre-match nerves have begun to kick in.

"I've played since I was six years old and the easy bit is once you are on the field and the whistle goes.

"Frank named the team on Tuesday and it's the hanging around that gets to you mentally. The excitement of getting picked and things like dealing with the media gets to you."
