Chris Cusiter's frustrating autumn is set to continue after doctors were unable to diagnose the extent of his knee problem due to heavy swelling.
The Border Reivers scrum half suffered the knock inside the first 20 minutes of Scotland's enthralling display against New Zealand, forcing him to limp out of the contest.
Now Cusiter faces an anxious wait to discover the length of time that his knee could keep him sidelined for, and an SRU spokesperson confirmed: "Chris sustained a knee knock and medics are waiting for the swelling to subside before continuing with further assessment."
This latest setback rounds off a trying autumn for the 23-year-old, after he returned from British Lions duty to find he had been replaced by Mike Blair in the Scotland line-up.
Cusiter then managed to fight his way back into the number nine jersey, but he could now miss part of the Six-Nations depending on the nature of his ligament damage.
