Tom Croft could miss six months, doubt for World Cup

Leicester and England flanker Tom Croft could miss the Rugby World Cup because of a serious shoulder injury, the club's director of rugby Richard Cockerill has confirmed.

Croft dislocated his shoulder in Leicester's win over Newcastle earlier this month and Cockerill has revealed the injury may keep him out for six months.

England's opening game of the World Cup comes against Fiji at Twickenham on September 18, just under six months from now.

Croft, who has endured a couple of injury-plagued seasons, has already undergone surgery. He missed all of last season with a knee injury and suffered a broken neck in 2012.

Cockerill said: "He has had a bit of nerve damage as well.

"We hope it is as quick as possible but it's likely to be six months or so.

"We just have to support the player and get him back on the field. It has been hugely disappointing for him and the club."
