Danny Cipriani: Deserving of a recall, says Austin Healey
Former England utility man Austin Healey has urged head coach Stuart Lancaster to consider recalling enigmatic fly-half Danny Cipriani.
Cipriani has guided Sale Sharks to the brink of the play-offs with some assured displays and Healey believes the 26-year-old is ready to return to the international scene for the first time since November 2008.
Healey, who won 51 caps between 1997-2003, said: "The fortunes and abilities of Danny and Sale seem to have run in tandem over the past 18 months and the comparisons are no coincidence.
"He has successfully transformed his game from a reckless talent to an influential and controlling No 10 and now warrant serious consideration for further honours.
"Danny has always had a maverick inside waiting to break out at any stage, which he still has.
"A maverick playing within a structured game plan is very dangerous."
England are likely to head off on their tour of New Zealand with Owen Farrell first-choice fly-half and George Ford as his deputy - with Cipriani vying with the likes of Freddie Burns and Stephen Myler to become third choice.
