Owen Farrell insists England must learn the lessons from their agonising defeat in France in time for Saturday's match with Scotland at Murrayfield.

Stuart Lancaster's side slumped to a late 26-24 defeat in their Six Nations opener in Paris after battling back to lead 21-16 from an earlier 16-3 deficit.

Next up is the Calcutta Cup clash with Scotland and, while Farrell admits the defeat in France still hurts, he knows England must move on quickly.

The Saracens fly-half told Sky Sports: "It's been a difficult couple of days as far as getting over it because you try to move on but you keep thinking back to the game.

Critical

"You know, especially having put in a good performance, you think as long as we perform well, we'll be proud of what we've done.

"But, when you've performed well and still lost the game, it's gutting really.

"Now we've got to move on, we've got to make sure that we take what we can from the game and get better.

"We are going to be critical of ourselves as well - we're not going to sit there and just say how well we've played.

"We're going to make sure we saw why we lost the game and make sure we're better for it."
