Leicester full-back Mathew Tait believes his best form is still ahead of him after recovering from a career threatening groin injury.

The 27-year-old has been off the international radar for three years and was staring into the face of enforced retirement just a year ago.

Tait - who played in the 2007 World Cup final - is hopeful of adding to his 38 England caps on this summer's tour to Argentina.

He told Sky Sports: "I still think I feel there is more to come from myself but that's just a case of playing games and continuing to try and play well.

"I spoke to Stuart (Lancaster) before the Six Nations just to say that I wouldn't be in any of his squads. I didn't even expect to get a phone call, so it was nice to know that he took the time out to do that.

"The main thing for me is to be selected for the club and hopefully be able to continue to perform and anything that results from that is a bonus."

During his lay-off, Tait took up flying which he is now thinking of turning into a professional career once his playing days are over.

"There is a similar buzz I got from playing. There's lots going on inside the cockpit and the thrill of my first landing I did myself was as close as I got to the buzz you get on a matchday."
