Michaela Staniford: Named the IRB Player of the Year
England winger Michaela Staniford has rewarded for a sensational 12 months with the IRB Women's Player of the Year title.
Staniford has been in phenomenal form in both the 15-a-side and Sevens forms of the sport.
She scored five tries in three appearances as England won a seventh successive Women's Six Nations title, while she helped the Sevens team to the titles in Hong Kong and London.
The 25-year-old, who has was named the best player of the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup series, then played a key role as England completed a 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand.
Staniford said: "I am delighted to be receiving this prestigious award, which is as much a reflection of the achievements of the England Sevens and XVs squads in 2012 as it is of my own personal journey.
"To receive this award in front of our home fans at Twickenham after a Series victory against New Zealand, is really, really special. It caps a wonderful year."
