Luke Narraway: Calf injury could scupper England hopes

Sky Bet

England may be forced into calling for another flanker after Gloucester captain Luke Narraway was injured in training.

Narraway joined England's training camp in Leeds this week after Tom Wood was ruled out of the first two RBS Six Nations matches through injury.

However, he picked up a calf strain on the final day of training and interim coach Stuart Lancaster will wait until the fallout of the Saxons' match with Ireland Wolfhounds on Saturday before making a decision.

The Saxons won 23-17 and Thomas Waldrom, the leading contender to replace Narraway, capped a storming individual performance with England's second try.

The England squad will reconvene on Sunday night to begin the build-up to their opening game against Scotland at Murrayfield next Saturday.

Lancaster will name his captain on Monday and then cut his squad down from 32 on Tuesday night, with the exact starting line-up and bench to be announced on Thursday.
