Nic White: Makes his first start for Australia against Argentina on Saturday
Australia scrum-half Nic White is confident he will justify his selection ahead of Will Genia for Saturday's Rugby Championship match with Argentina.
The Brumbies star was surprisingly preferred to Genia by Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie, who is under increasing pressure after losing his first three games in charge.
White revealed that Genia has been supportive and given him plenty of advice ahead of his first start.
"Ewen hasn't given me the jersey to go out and have a little run around. I have to make sure I'm well prepared. I'm extremely excited."
"He's not only offered advice, he's also given me two pairs of boots," said White. "He gets given a lot of pairs and had a couple left over.
"Most of the guys up here have size 13, 14 boots. So it's pretty rare to have two blokes with size 10.
"We've got a pretty good friendship. The very first session on Monday I went and spoke to him about what he learned from the previous game, and what things I could work on. It was very open."
All three of White's international appearances have ended in defeat and the 23-year-old is determined to end that streak against the Pumas in Perth.
''Ewen hasn't given me the jersey to go out and have a little run around,'' he said. ''I have to make sure I'm well prepared. I'm extremely excited.''
McKenzie is confident White will step up to the mark against Argentina.
"Most people watching know he's got an outstanding kicking game," he said. "He is actually a very good runner too and that competition for spots in every position is something we need as a team."
