Australia have been left reeling by news Ben Alexander is the latest player to be ruled out of Saturday's Bledisloe Cup clash against New Zealand.

The Wallabies had already seen Digby Ioane and Dom Shipperley pull out in the build-up to the match, while Saia Fainga'a was forced to withdraw from the replacements after breaking his hand in training.

On top of that the likes James Horwill, David Pocock, Will Genia, Quade Cooper, Berrick Barnes and James O'Connor are also missing.

Alexander had initially been due to start against the All Blacks in Brisbane but a wrist injury means he is the latest to head to the packed out treatment room.

As a result, James Slipper is promoted to the starting XV - with Sekope Kepu, who himself had been sidelined with a knee injury, providing cover from the bench.
