New Zealand scrum-half Aaron Smith has agreed a new two-year deal to remain at the Highlanders.

Smith’s future had been in doubt after he committed to the NZRU without confirming which Super Rugby side he would be playing at.

The Blues had been linked to a move for the 25-year-old All Black, however Smith has now officially signed a new contract with the Highlanders

General manager Roger Clark said: "It's great to be able to officially confirm Aaron will be a Highlander for the two years.

"We have made great progress as a team this past season and as a senior player Aaron is vital to the continuation of that success."
