The Highlanders have confirmed the signing of Argentina prop Matias Diaz on a year-long deal.

The 20-year-old tighthead, who has been capped four times, will make the switch from the Teque Rugby Club in Argentina.

Diaz, who was a member of the Pumas squad at the IRB Junior World Championship in France this year, will team up with the Super Rugby outfit in November.

Diaz made his international debut against Uruguay in April and started the 73-13 rout by South Africa in the Rugby Championship.

Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph said: "Matias is a good young player from what I have seen so far.

"He's already proven that he can play at international level against the best teams in the world, so his talent is evident."
