Former Melbourne Rebels hooker Heath Tessmann has agreed a short-term deal with the Western Force.
With Ben Whittaker set to miss the start of the new Super Rugby season with a broken foot, Tessmann has been brought in as cover.
The 28-year-old, who appeared 10 times for the Rebels between 2011 and 2012, has been training with the Force during pre-season.
And Force coach Michael Foley believes Tessmann can push first-choice No 2 Nathan Charles hard.
"Heath is an experienced player and knows the demands of Super Rugby," Foley told AAP.
"This is a good opportunity for him to push for a place in the team and further his Super Rugby experience."
