The Blues coach Sir John Kirwan claims he has picked "excitement machines" for his wider training group.
The Blues Pita Ahki, Lolagi Visinia, Joe Edwards, Albert Nikoro and Sean Polwart will supplement the initial squad for the 2013 season.
And Kirwan is delighted with what he has seen from the inexperienced quintet.
"We were initially concerned because last season there were 40 players used through injury, but at the end of the day I believe we've taken the courageous route and we've picked some real excitement machines with huge upside and no experience," Kirwan said.
"The nice thing about all these guys is they're good enough to be great and that's their challenge. I think the catch cry for this group is turning their potential into a reality."
Polwart, a 22-year-old flanker, has previously made five appearances for the Blues, while winger Visinia has been capped by the New Zealand Sevens side.
Centre Ahki played for the Baby Blacks at this year's Junior World Championship, while Nikoro can cover a number of positions on the back division.
No 8 Edwards gets his chance after impressing for the Auckland team in the ITM Cup.
