The Cheetahs will be boosted with the return of Springbok flanker Juan Smith to the starting line-up for Saturday's Super 14 derby against the Stormers in Cape Town.

Smith resumes the captaincy and takes over the number seven jersey in place of Hendro Scholtz, who drops down to the bench.

The Cheetahs lost the services of Smith to an ankle injury during the humiliating loss to the Blues in March.

The inspirational captain missed his team's unsuccessful four-match tour of Australasia, but returned to the Cheetahs' bench for last week's win over the Reds - the first Super 14 victory recorded by the Bloemfontein-based men this year.

Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Eddie Fredericks, 13 JW Jonker, 12 Meyer Bosman, 11 Jongi Nokwe, 10 Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 9 Tewis de Bruyn; 1 Wian du Preez, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 3 CJ van der Linde, 4 Rory Duncan, 5 Barend Pieterse, 6 Heinrich Brüssow, 7 Juan Smith (c), 8 Duanne Vermeulen.

Replacements: 16 Richardt Strauss, 17 Bees Roux, 18 David de Villiers, 19 Hendro Scholtz, 20 Falie Oelschig, 21 Conrad Barnard, 22 Hendrik Meyer.
