Flanker Magnus Lund has signed a new two-year deal with the Sale Sharks.

Lund, who is in his second spell with the Aviva Premiership side, has been one of the club’s most impressive performers this season.

The 31-year-old came through the Sharks academy and made his senior debut in 2002 – he left for Biarritz in 2008 and spent six years with the Top 14 side before returning last summer.

He said: "I am delighted to have signed a new deal with the club. We have a good group of players here and I firmly believe the club is moving in the right direction.

"Let’s hope we can push on now and make the top six which was our pre-season target."

Director of rugby Steve Diamond said: "I was delighted to sign Magnus in the summer and he has fitted in perfectly with the squad.

“Magnus has played in 20 games this season and his consistent performances attracted the interest of two other Premiership clubs looking to try and sign him. Thankfully he has signed a new deal with us for the next two years."
