Sharks fly-half Tim Swiel is to join Harlequins on loan until February 2015 as cover for the injured Ben Botica.
The Aviva Premiership outfit have turned to Swiel after Botica injured his shoulder during an Aviva 'A' League match earlier this month.
Botica has had surgery which rules him out until the New Year and Swiel will now step in during the Sharks’ off-season.
Quins boss Conor O'Shea said: “While we are very disappointed to lose Ben Botica to injury, I am delighted to be able to bring in someone of Tim's ability from the Sharks at such short notice.
"Tim is a player with real X factor who we are sure will fit within how we play and we look forward to welcoming him to the Twickenham Stoop."
Swiel was born in Somerset and moved to South Africa where he attended Bishop's College in Cape Town before signing for Western Province, a team that he represented at U16, U18, U21 and senior levels.
In 2013 the former South African Schools back moved to Durban, having signed for the Sharks.
The English qualified fly-half represented the Sharks against Saracens in January and has played three times in this season's Currie Cup.
He said: "I am looking forward to joining Harlequins during the Sharks off-season.
"Due to injury, I did not get a lot of game-time during the Absa Currie Cup and my coaches at The Sharks and I agree that regular game-time during this off-season will enhance my preparation and will provide the necessary momentum needed for Super Rugby 2015.
"I believe that it can only be beneficial for other young players to get similar opportunities to experience another rugby culture during their off-season, which will contribute positively to their growth and experience in the game.
“I thank The Sharks and Harlequins for granting me this exciting opportunity."
