Rob Baxter: Delighted with the way his side have started the 2013/14 campaign
Exeter Chiefs coach Rob Baxter believes his side have established strong foundations to build upon as the Aviva Premiership season gathers momentum.
Despite losing their curtain raiser against Northampton, the Chiefs have bounced back with successive victories against Wasps and London Irish.
Next on the agenda for Baxter's men is a showdown with defending champions Leicester at Sandy Park on Sunday and the Exeter boss insists he is delighted with what his players have achieved so far.
"Eight points from your first three games is a really good foundation to push on from," Baxter said.
"It is similar to how we have started seasons in the past, so I am comfortable with where we are.
"Leicester are the reigning champions for a reason, and you have to play well to beat them. We know we have to keep our foot on the gas."
"Now, though, we have to build on that foundation, collect some points - I don't mind how we get them - and just make sure we are comfortable with our level of performance."
Following a 30-26 home win against Wasps and a 29-23 victory away to the Exiles, Baxter expects his side to keep taking advantage of the season's slow starters.
"The truth is the best teams are not at their best right now," he added. "This is the time when they bed in and get better, so that is what we have to do.
"Leicester are the reigning champions for a reason, and you have to play well to beat them. We know we have to keep our foot on the gas.
"We always look forward to Leicester coming down here. It's a big fixture for us, and it is what we got into the Premiership for. These are the kind of fixtures that we said we wanted to be part of."
