London Welsh have made eight new signings as they target a rapid return to the Aviva Premiership following their relegation.

The club have lost key players such as Jonathan Mills and Neil Briggs, but hope the mix of youth and experience brought in will see them mount a Championship title challenge next season.

Former England centre Tom May joins the Exiles after his release by Northampton, while back-row forward Richard Thorpe makes the switch from Leicester.

Ex-England and Lions hooker Andy Titterrell arrives from Edinburgh, with former Leicester man Ben Pienaar joining from Moseley.

The remaining new recruits are lock Pete Browne (Harlequins), flanker Carl Kirwan (Rotherham Titans), wing Rhys Crane (Nottingham) and second-row Ben West (Cinderford).

A club statement said: "Further signings are also expected in the coming weeks and a list of the full squad (including those already under contract) will be announced very shortly."
