Michael Mayhew: Pleased to have joined London Irish
London Irish have signed hooker Michael Mayhew from Newcastle and he will leave the Falcons at the end of the season.
Mayhew spent time with London Irish on loan earlier in the season and made four appearances before returning to Newcastle due to injuries, but he has now been given a permanent three-year deal by the Exiles.
The 26-year-old former North Harbour man joined the Falcons in November 2011 and has played for them on 30 occasions.
London Irish Director of Rugby Brian Smith said: "Mike made a big impression when he played for us earlier in the season, so I'm delighted he's bought into our vision for the future at our club.
"He's a big fella and dynamic ball carrier, so he'll fit into our game very well. Mike is also English-qualified and I believe he has the potential to kick on and play Test rugby."
Keen to come back
Mayhew added: "I really enjoyed my time down at Sunbury earlier this year and was really keen to come back on a permanent deal.
"It was fantastic playing in front of the passionate Irish supporters and I look forward to doing it a lot more next season.
"I have really enjoyed my time at Newcastle Falcons but a move to Irish is the better option for me at this stage in my career."
Newcastle will also be losing their Samoan international back row man Taiasina Tu'ifua at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old has signed a two-year contract with French Top 14 side Bordeaux.
